Vision Insurance Does Come in Handy But Isn’t Necessary
Taking care of your eyes should be just one aspect of your overall health and wellness plan. However, many people neglect their vision health, especially those who have had ‘perfect’ vision in the past. As we get older, our eyes are one of the first things to wane.
So, you’ve finally decided it’s time to take care of your eyes, but you don’t have vision insurance. While many companies offer their employees vision insurance, this is not always the case. One of the most frequently asked questions we field at our Dallas eye center is, “do I need vision insurance to buy glasses or get a comprehensive eye exam?”
The answer is no, anyone can buy glasses, contacts, or make an appointment, whether they have vision insurance or not. Although vision insurance can come in handy and is an option for many, the majority of people do not have this type of coverage. Thankfully, we offer several different options for patients without insurance. One option is to simply pay out-of-pocket, or check our website for ongoing specials and deals. We will talk more about this later, but let’s first talk about what vision insurance is and whether or not you need to have it.
What is Vision Insurance?
As with medical insurance, vision insurance is a wellness plan that aims to reduce your costs for preventive eye care, glasses, and contacts. Because there are many different options out there, it is important to do your research and make sure you understand the costs and stipulations of the plan you choose.
However, if you decide you don’t want to pay for vision insurance and would rather look into other options, that is more than fine. Most people fall into the latter category.
Do I have to have it to purchases glasses or contacts, or to get an eye exam?
As mentioned earlier, one of the easiest options when it comes to purchasing eyewear is to pay upfront. If this isn’t an option for you, please ask one of our friendly technicians about payment plans and the other options offered here at First Eye Care DFW.
We often run specials on glasses and contacts (check out the deal we have going on right now!) to make taking care of your eyes much easier. We understand that glasses are an investment and can be pricey, depending on your prescription and vision needs. We are happy to work with you to find the right plan and ensure your eye health is taken care of.
